CHICAGO — U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders’ campaign on Thursday thanked acclaimed documentary director Sanjay Rawal and his producer Smriti Keshari for licensing the use of video footage for a powerful ad on families living and working in Immokalee, Florida. Rawal directed the 2014 documentary “Food Chains,” which received glowing reviews from The New York Times and U.S. News and World Report. Rawal’s footage of agricultural workers in Immokalee was used in a powerful new five-minute ad from the Sanders campaign entitled “Tenemos Familias,” which will run live on Univision Thursday evening.
“We’re so grateful that Sanjay and Smriti helped make this video possible, and helped us tell the tale of so many families in Florida living and struggling under unjust economic conditions and unconscionable immigration policies,” said Sanders’ national press secretary Symone Sanders. “People interested in learning more should watch Food Chains, which tells the story of where our food comes from and the hands that pick it, in even greater depth.”
